Custom Fields Overview

Custom Fields helps Jira administrators review unlocked custom fields before cleanup, consolidation, migration, or governance decisions.

The module includes:

  • Audit Overview — summary dashboard for a completed audit run
  • Audit Details — detailed evidence across configuration, usage, and dependencies
  • Cleanup Recommendation — advisory decisions to record for follow-up

What the Audit Scans​

Custom Fields scans custom fields that Jira explicitly reports as unlocked through the field search endpoint. Locked custom fields and fields where Jira does not report lock state are excluded from the audit.

The audit analyzes these data sources to detect usage:

  • Screens and screen schemes
  • Field configurations and field configuration schemes
  • Saved filters (by JQL pattern matching)
  • Boards that depend on filters already matched to audited fields
  • Workflow definitions, transitions, and capabilities
  • Associated spaces (Jira projects) and project assignments
  • Count-only work item population signals (without storing issue keys or summaries)

Read-Only Design​

Custom Fields audits are read-only. The app does not modify Jira fields, screens, workflows, filters, boards, projects, work items, or Automation rules.
